Shippers are Urged to Care About the Crew Change Crisis

As ship operators are still unable to conduct crew changes, the issue has become the single greatest operational challenge confronting the global shipping industry.

International shipping bodies BIMCO, Intercargo, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and Intertanko have written a letter urging Jeff Bezos of Amazon to use his influence with governments to push for public recognition of seafarers as key workers and to champion the cause of crew change.  You can find additional details on this request here.

ECMC member, Dennis Mottola, has also written a letter to the editor of independent global media channel, Breakbulk.News, urging shippers to engage and become part of the solution.

“Shippers, be advocates for seafarer crew change. Do what is right and just…what you would want others to do for you…” – Dennis Mottola”

You can read the entire letter here.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) highlighted the plight of the hundreds of thousands of seafarers who are still stranded at sea, issuing a strong call for their fundamental right s to be respected. Please watch this video posted by the IMO recently.
